05.20.10 — TORCHED: CHAR-BROILED EDITION REVIEWED

Now that our re-released Torched is making the rounds, the critics are weighing in on this rediscovered gem. First up, Severed Cinema has this to say:

"In the rape-revenge genre, Torched easily ranks somewhere at the top. In the world of the genre, the rape is the direct catalyst for the female protagonist to exact her revenge. Whereas Meir Zarchi's I Spit On Your Grave emphasizes the notoriously lengthy rape and humiliation of the main character, Torched is heavy on revenge. There is nothing more disappointing than a rape-revenge film that hides from its intentions, or flinches from violence. Thankfully, Ryan Nicholson does not disappoint in any department. There are times when the movie feels over the top, yet it achieves shocking realism at these moments of pure, unadulterated chaos. Quite realistically, Deanna's character descends deeper and deeper into insanity as the movie progresses. In this respect, the movie frighteningly explores the depths of depravity that a person can achieve at the most savage level and ultimately, the damaging loss of one's sanity."

Next we have a word from the sickos at Cinesploitation:

Torched is one of those low budget movies that just works. The flick’s running time clocks in at 45 minutes, making it short and sweet and to the point. This works very well for the film and delivers a better story that never slows down or bores us... we get a hot chick getting straight to the torture. Moving on to what most any Ryan Nicholson fan would be wondering about: the gore. Staying true to his effects roots the flick is littered with a goretastic amount of blood and other gruesome treats. From a power saw being used as a fillet-o-matic on some poor woman’s neck, to a bunch of hypodermic needles being used as acupuncture on a gentleman’s unfortunate penis... there’s enough horrid sights to keep you watching in winching horror and blood thirsty glee.

A few copies of Torched: Char-Broiled Edition are still available, so don't miss out!
